DFID-RSPN KOMAK: Relief and Early Recovery in the Flood Affected Districts of Punjab and Sindh

The British Government through the Department for International Development (DFID) has approved an emergency relief and early recovery project to meet the needs of flood affected communities across 20 districts of Punjab and Sindh.  The Komak Project will be managed by the Rural Support Programmes Network (RSPN) and implemented by Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP), Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO), National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and Thardeep Rural Development Programme (TRDP). Over a period of five months, Komak Project will benefit over 150.000 households which translates approximately to 1,000,000 people. The Komak Project has two objectives:

  1. To meet the immediate water, sanitation, hygiene and shelter needs of flood affected communities in target districts
  2. To meet the early recovery needs (water and  food security) of flood affected communities in target districts

Komak Project will be implemented in the following flood affected districts:

The total budget outlay for the project is Rs. 388,700,000.  The project will ensure the distribution to flood affected people the following:  14,000 units each of hygiene kits, clean water kits, mosquito nets and hand pumps; 30,000 units of emergency shelter kits, 467 hygiene awareness sessions, construction of 14,000 pit latrines and distribution of 157,440 bags of animal feed.

Transparency will be provided through a rigorous programme monitoring plan with weekly and monthly reporting of achievements against targets with gender equality being given the highest priority throughout the project lifecycle.
