RSPs SHARE EXPERIENCE AND DISCUSS WAYS FORWARD AT RSPN’s STRATEGY RETREAT
Over 150 representatives from the RSPs participated in the retreat, where they shared experiences, exchanged critique, and discussed ways forward. The event also featured representatives from international development organisations, such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and various development consultancies in Pakistan. Notable individual guests included the Chief Economist at Pakistan’s Planning Commission, Mr Jaffar Qamar and former Health Minister, Mr Ejaz Rahim. The issues that came under discussion notably included flood responses mediated under the RSPs’ outreach such as the USAID funded BAHAAL and SARP projects, the impact of social mobilisation and evidence for its validity, and the impact of Community Physical Infrastructure (CPI). The theme of gender also received particular focus, with presentations and discussions on the impact of social mobilisation on women, on gender and its potential role in disaster risk reduction, and on the Gender Training of Trainers (GToT) programme run by the RSPs. The retreat featured the distribution of certificates to the successful graduates of the GToT programme and the presentation of documentaries on RSP work, including on the recent flood relief efforts taken under USAID funding. The event closed out with a last round of open panel discussions of the participants with senior representatives from the RSPs and closing remarks from Ms Shandana Khan, RSPN CEO.
