RSPs Flood Relief Efforts 2010-11 August 2011 - Given the vast outreach that the RSP network has in place, the RSPs were one of the first respondents to the floods that hit the country a year ago. With prior experience in handling disaster situations (such as the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan), the RSPs were one of the first movers in the relief process. Donors came from all over the world, and trusted the RSPs with their distributions. In the first few months, over a million individuals were provided with food by the RSPs with the World Food Program (WFP) choosing to work with the RSPs in many locations as its partner in food distribution. Given the RSPs' ability to mobilize very quickly, over 1 million people were provided with medical facilities and over 750,000 livestock was cared for. After the initial relief, the RSPs helped over a million people with transitional and permanent shelter. Over 1.5 million people were provided with food rations to get them through the initial difficult period. The RSPs also provided several hundred thousand people with Non-Food Items (NFIs), interventions from the WASH sector, such as hygiene kits and hygiene sessions, as well as agricultural inputs to help households become self-sustaining and re-establish a regular source of income.
